My first BIG project at Local Language. The drafting was not as hard as I thought, it just took a lot longer even when I got the hang of it. The real challenge was the material - Corefoam. It is easy to cut, which is good on tools, if it is properly laminated it doesn’t flex and will remain square and flat. However, the paint is the problem. It is absorbent and at the particular weight we bought is green. The buildings would cast green shadows if not properly covered in paint. Getting proper, even coverage across all five panels was a learning experience. The finish, necessary because the art was be installed in a high traffic area presented it’s own problems; dust nibs and getting it into all the void spaces. I really wish I could have tweaked the design every so slightly. I would have made the buildings and streets just a little bit bigger, to facilitate the speedy application of paint.
